Abstract

The Fédération Nationale Saint-Jean-Baptiste (FNSJB), the first Francophone feminist organization in Quebec, founded in 1907, built relationships with other associations in the Western world. However, historiography rarely looks at these transnational networks. This article explores the FNSJB’s participation in developing an internatonal Catholic women’s network, especially through its affiliation with the International Federation of Catholic Women’s Leagues and its connection with other foreign organizations such as the Ligue patriotique des Françaises. The article also takes a look at the discourse developed by the FNSJB in the pages of its official publication, La Bonne Parole, on its international relations and actions taken in parallel with these European “sister” associations, in particular using the example of the Assistance par le travail committee.
